Conversion of Fire Extinguishing Systems

What is a conversion of fire extinguishing systems and why do I need It?

The conversion of a fire extinguishing system, in our case, means transitioning the customer’s existing system that uses fluorinated extinguishing agents to a fluorine-free* extinguishing agent. Everything necessary for this process is carefully considered. For one customer, it might only require replacing the foam concentrate, while for another, it may involve a complete overhaul of the fire extinguishing system. Each fire extinguishing system must be individually evaluated during the conversion process from fluorinated to fluorine-free* foam extinguishing agents.

Transition plan

A topic that presents significant uncertainties and challenges for industries, fire brigades, health and safety managers, engineering firms, insurance companies, and users in general. Frequently, the following questions arise:

- Which regulations and limits apply, and from when?
- Is the extinguishing agent effective for our specific application?
- What needs to be considered to ensure its effectiveness?
- What roles do building regulations and the original fire protection concept play?
- How can cleaning be carried out professionally and in compliance with authority requirements?
- How quickly can foam extinguishing agents be replenished in the event of discharge?

We at Dr. STHAMER assist with conceptualization, guide you through the
conversion process, and provide training on these and other related topics.

Conversion process at Dr. STHAMER

With our concept and structured approach to the conversion process, you receive comprehensive support—from the complete data collection of your system to its recommissioning with a fluorine-free* foam concentrate. Our conversion process concept consists of various steps (phases) to ensure transparency and optimal structure throughout the process.
We coordinate, structure and guide you in different phases:
When converting to a fluorine-free* foam extinguishing agent, it is essential to maintain or demonstrate the effectiveness of the extinguishing system. Beyond the various phases, we offer support, guidance, and planning for test concepts. Components, fuels, foam agents, protection concepts, and combinations are tested in trials.

In doing so, we draw on our experience and expertise from over 100 years of foam extinguishing agent production, with more than 550 fire tests and effectiveness verifications conducted annually. Feel free to contact us for further information. We are happy to assist and support you throughout the entire conversion process. With us, you can transition to a fluorine-free future.

*By fluorine-free, we refer to products manufactured without the intentional addition of fluorine-organic compounds to enhance performance, ensuring they contain no more fluorine-organic substances than the ubiquitous background levels typically found regionally (e.g., in the drinking water used for production).
