BosQRet® is a liquid flame retardant used to coat dry vegetation with a special blend of water-soluble substances that significantly suppress or delay the ignition and combustion of treated vegetation. Even when completely dry, the BosQRet® coating adheres firmly to the treated substrate and remains effective. BosQRet® is completely and readily biodegradable and has a pH that is safe for plants.

Depending on the application and the expected fire contact, BosQRet® is added to water at a concentration of 5 - 40 % and sprayed evenly and generously onto the vegetation to be treated. A most even cover is needed to achieve the very best effect. Thanks to wetting agents contained in the formula, BosQRet® is able to evenly wet water-repellent plant parts. BosQRet® can be used with freshwater and seawater, however the extensive use of seawater may have drawbacks for vegetation regeneration after a fire.

BosQRet® has been fully tested for toxicological and ecotoxicological effects by an independent, accredited laboratory. The product itself, as well as the application solutions prepared from it, act as plant nutrients and support plant growth and the regeneration of vegetation. 1,000 liters of a 10% BosQRet® solution can be safely applied to one square meter of forest area. Depending on the proportioning rate the application quantity considered harmless increases or decreases proportionally. The introduction of the product and solutions prepared from it into natural waters should be avoided due to the risk of over-fertilisation (eutrophication).

BosQRet® can also be used as a long-term retardant acting as a dry barrier. If applied with a significant advance and on the flame length and speed, as well as the strength of the barrier, even the dried-up barrier of BosQRet is capable of stopping the fire front. This allows for tactical planning of firefighting attacks on the fire front. Particularly in areas with munitions contamination, resource-efficient firefighting can be conducted without endangering emergency personnel. Barricade positions with a permanent water supply (circular sprinklers) are therefore no longer necessary. Critical infrastructure and settlements can be protected with minimal personnel deployment, even when the fire front changes direction, by creating effective barriers that take advantage of the terrain’s shape. The follow-up monitoring and defence of such passive barriers can be achieved with very little manpower and material. It can be applied from the ground using standard firefighting equipment.
